Recovery Disc not being read!!

Please help guys and gals,

I've recently decided to reboot windows and applications on my Sony Vaio
laptop, thing is, I burned the recovery media onto 2 DVD's to free up some
more space on the two partitons on my hard drive (recovery files no longer on
the harddrive). But alas as I have just found out, the 1st recovery disc has
not burned correctly and cannot be read by my DVD-RW drive.

I was wondering if any other vaio users out there have had the same problem
and have overcome this to re-install windows.

it is possible that you didn't format a hidden partition that is special for
laptop configurations. your vaio site may provide more info but sometimes
pressing the alt+f10 key during bootup will get you to that secret menu.
also, if your hd was an ntfs drive, it is likely you can restore it even
though you had reformatted it. look on the net for recovery or rescue
software. if you can get a windows installed, then you can use these window
based softwares to find your deleted data. Acronis disk suite is good, it
helped me recover crashed partitions...

incidently, i may not have mentioned that you probably needed to make a boot
up cd that contained your recovery software that would run your disk images
from the cds to the hd. Hopefully, the alt f10 will get you to the dos
version of the recovery software. if not then you will simply need to use
you default recovery disks to reinstall windows and the recovery program.
Once in windows you can use those disk images to restore your preferred
configuration.
