recovery console

i'm following the instructions to use the recovery console
from a winxp pro cd. they say i should be asked for the
admin password but it never does. when i type the first
command which is, md tmp, i get access is denied. any
suggestions?

The cmd isnt valid,try typing:Mkdir
This is the same thing,creates a directory(Md).
For the cmds type:HELP
