Recovery console

I have previously posted and followed advice given to no avail. I have a P4
2.6g with Windows XP SP2 installed. I have original Win XP Home CD and the
original SP2 CD. I didnt download SP2. I have tried to slipstream these CDs
to no avail. I copied both CDs to appropriate folders on my C drive. And
then try to "intergrate", the files get extracted and a box pops up showing
the switches available in SP2 setup but with no provision for me to take any
action. No wizard or anything else start. I have the original SP2 CD not the
download file so it type at the command prompt
C:]SP2>xpsp2.exe / integrate:C:/xp where SP2 and xp are the folders on my
C drive to which I copies the files. What am I doing wrong. I am stunned
that I have to go through all this just to access the "recovery console" Any
advice please.

If you have a SP2 CD already, then you should be able to install the
recovery console from it. Just follow the Help and Support Center
directions for installing the RC, they should work. [they won't work if
you are running SP2 and only have a CD w/ SP1 or earlier]. If you have an
earlier version of the RC already installed you need to delete it first;
again, H&S can provide the instructions for doing that.

Thanks but as I said originally when I use the SP2 cd is comes up with a
reject message" D:\i385 refers to a location that is not available......."
On looking at the CD with windows explorer there is no folder i386.

The service pack 2 CD does not have the \I386 folder.

Look at your Windows folder on the HD. (Either folder \Windows or \WINNT)
Under it, you may see a \ServicePackFiles\i386 folder

Ahhh, you have a SP2 UPDATE CD, not a Win XP w/ SP2 CD. Got it now, so
you DO need to make a XP w/ SP2 CD, via the slipstreaming method.
As stated, the easiest way to do this is w/ Autostreamer or XPCreate. Or
just google for "slipstream" and find a site w/ directions that fit your
situation. It's not hard, but not too easy either! ;-) Sorry.

I have seen directions on how to install rc from the i386 folder already
on your HD, but am not too sure they're good: check last paragraph here:

Hi

No, that is not possible. A slipstreamed SP2 CD is needed to install the
Recovery Console.
