Recovery Console installation problems

Jeff Malka

Hi

I have a new PC with pre-installed XP home Sp1. I read in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307654 the instructions to install the
Recovery Console in XP.

Although I have previously installed NTBackup from the recovery CDs, I
cannot find
"i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons"
in my recovery CDs (there are 2 of them that came with the system). There is
a I386 folder but it contains no winnt32.exe and search does not find it
anywhere else on the CDs.

What do I do to install a recovery Console on my HD?

(The winnt32.exe file does exist on my hard drive in C:\windows\I386\ . Can
I use that one? When I tried, it tried to connect to the internet to update
the system and I am concerned that might screw up whatis working well
<grin>)

Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

Yes, you can use that one. Your system maker placed the system files in that
location just for these purposes.
