Recovery Console and Goback

B

Ben

HI, I recently had a problem of some kind, that deleted
quite a few files, that I'm trying to recover. I do not
have my XP OS Cd, but I would like to do a Goback. I was
thinking that it is located in the system tools, but my
system tools is empty, I did a search for it and the files
came up but I could not figure out what to do to run a
Goback from all of the files listed, when I boot up my sys
says that I have Goback. I also thought that I could get
into recovery console, but like I said, I do not have my
OS cd. There are so many things missing, that I'm trying
to restore them the best I can. System Restore does not
work and never has worked. Please , any help would be
aprreciated deeply. Thanks, Ben

Sorry, I missed telling you that I have NO Cd's, I built
this system myself, just have a bunch of apps cd's. Yea,
this would be a lot simpler if I had the correct Cd's. Do
you think you can help? Thanks again, Ben

If you have GoBack there will be an icon for it in the system tray. (two
left pointing yellow arrows when it was Roxio's, may be different now that
it's Symantec's) Right click or double click the icon and choose revert
harddrive. Pick a date prior to the mistaken deletions. All files will be
restored to the state they were in on the chosen date.

I almost hate to ask, but how did you get XP on the computer in the
first place? You may wind up having to buy another copy if there are as
many things missing as you indicate. On the bright side, you'd have the
peace of mind of being able to recover if there were another huge
problem in the future.

I had the original XP OS CD but, I cannot find it. Of
course you know that you can get around this without the
30 registration thing anyway. But this OS is legitimate,
I'm looking for an easier way to correct my problems
without having to borrow an OS CD and doing what is
described at microsoft.scum. I asure you that my OS is
legit. Can you help?

You can use Aida32 to find your CD Key on your system.
http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php
Then if you wanted to borrow a friends CD you could do the clean install and
use YOUR CD Key.
The CD's are virtually the same it is the key that's your identifier so you
are within your legal limits in doing this IF and ONLY IF what you say is
true and your CD Key is valid becuade you PURCHASED it.

However a better option would be:
If you have lost, broken, or misplaced your original Publisher installation
CD, you can order replacement media from Microsoft.
Order a Replacement CD
U.S. customers can contact the Microsoft Order Desk at the following phone
number:
(800) 360-7561, Monday through Friday, 5:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Pacific time.

Canadian customers can contact the Canadian Order Desk at the following
number:
(800) 933-4750, Monday through Friday, 5:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Pacific time.

The system tray is the area around the clock that contains icons for some
running programs, antivirus, firewall etc ... (and GoBack)

Roxio is the previous owner of GoBack.

Symantec is the present owner of GoBack.

If you have GoBack on your system as you say you have one or the other.

Hello,If you have GoBack installed, during the boot process
before Windows loads a screen showing GoBack will appear.During
the countdown on this screen you can press the space bar and there
will be several options offered, including revert drive. If you do
not want to reboot there is a item in the system tray "right bottom corner"
gold in color, listed as GoBack. Click on this and several options
will be availible. There will also be a listing on Start- Programs it
will be either Roxio or GoBack.
Take Care.
