Recovering disk space

M

Mike Doyle

I'm thinking I have an offline foldering issue. My winnt
dir is showing its using 6.5 GB, but as I look through the
sub dirs, I see no more then 2 GB of folders and files.
Something is taking up over 3 GB of disk space and I can't
find it. I have searched for files over 1 MB, the math
doesn't add up. It appears to have started with offline
foldering.

Hi Mike,

If the lost disk space can be attributed to "offline foldering", file attributes
(Hidden and System) and NTFS permissions (by default only Administrators have
permission to access the Offline Files folder - C:\WINNT\CSC) can prevent these types
of files from being included in your search. So before trying to locate the lost
disk space log in as a user in the Administrators group and configure Windows
Explorer to include these types of files. For more information see the following
