Recover my database

I have been creating a database, and this morning as I tried to open it, I
have been receiving this warning message:

"This database is in an unexpected state; Microsoft Access can't open it.
This database has been converted from a prior version of Microsoft Access by
using the DAO CompactDatabase method instead of the Convert Database command
on the Tools menu (Database Utilities submenu). This has left the database in
a partially converted state. If you have a copy of the database in its
original format, use the Convert Database command on the Tools menu (Database
Utilities submenu) to convert it. If the original database is no longer
available, create a new database and import your tables and queries to
preserve your data. Your other database objects can't be recovered."

Then when I try to complete the conversion that the message is talking
about, I get this message:

"You do not have the necessary permissions to use the 'C:\Documents and
Settings\mb66797\Desktop\Project Tracker 09-08.mdb' object. Have your system
administrator or the person who created this object establish the appropriate
permission for you."

I am the person who created this object, so I don't understand why I'm
getting this message. I really need to not lose any of the forms, reports,
tables, modules, and queries that I created in this database. Could you
please help me figure out how to recover this database? I don't know what
happened between last night after working on the database just fine, and this
morning.

If you don't have a backup, you are pretty much hosed. There are some
companies that can recover this sort of thing, but it is very expensive.
