Database will not open

Hello,

I have an Access 2003 database. Last night, everything was fine. This
morning, Access cannot open the file, indicating:

The database is in an unexpected state; Microsoft Office Access cannot open
it.

This database has been converted from a prior version of Microsoft Office
Access by using thew DAO CompactDatabase method instead of the Convert
Database command on the Tools menu (Database Utilities submenu). This has
left the database in a partially converted state.

If you have a copy of the database in its originalformat, use the Convertg
Database command on the Tools menu (Database Utilities submenu) to convert.
If the original database is no longer available, create a new database and
import your tables and queries to preserve your data. Your other database
objects can't be recovered.

This database was saved to the 2003 format more than a month ago right after
ist was initially created.

If I attempt to convert it now, I get an error message that reads:

You do not have permissions to use the '<path and filename>' object. Have
your system administrator or the person who created this object establish the
appropriate permissions for you.

Can anyone advise me on how to recover from this?

Your database has become corrupted. I hope you have a backup - this may or may
not be salvagable!

Try creating a new, empty database and use File... Get External Data... Import
to import objects from it into the new database.

See http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm for a thorough discussion
of corruption causes, cures and prevention.
