Recover after install

I am having the same problem as in the Feb 21 posting
with the same subject. My installation went south and I
can't boot into Windows even to rebuild. I get a missing
reference to object lsass.exe.

I reinstalled the OS into a different folder so that I
could recover my settings and files under my profile, but
I cant get to them. Can't copy, delete, view or move my
docs and settings folder from the previous install.

Is there anyway to get the files in that folder back???
