Reclaiming a Domain

P

Paul Fenton

A friend has asked me to update her business's website that was
designed several years ago for the previous owner. The domain was
registered by the designer who has since disappeared and does not
respond to email, US mail, phone calls, etc. On top of that, the
domain is on auto renew every year, so it doesn't expire so I can take
control.

The domain is http://www.seabreezepetcemetery.com/.

Is there any sort of process I could take to gain control of that
domain so I could update her website?

I know this is not FP related other than that's the software I use to
do websites but I know there are a lot of developers in this group
who've helped me with FP issues in the past. If there's a more
appropriate NG to post this problem, please let me know.

This link gives a little information.

As you have probably discovered there are no registered contacts.
(However, the whois.net listing is not always correct.) You could try
contacting GoDaddy.com who is the registrant for this domain. If you
have proof of ownership transfer they should be able to help. (Do you
know who is paying for the registration?)

My host is icdsoft.com I have found them extremely helpful and they
offer a very good service. If you explain your situation to them with
a view to switching hosts they may decide to help you.

Contact Godaddy, explain to them the situation. And then ask them if you
could fax them a letter on the letter head, maybe a business card or some
other information that shows that you own that domain name.

I know, I usually say don't volunteer information, but in this case,
volunteer a little bit. The more helpful you are the better. Hopefully you
will get a representative that will help you. If not, ask to speak with a
supervisor and offer the information again. Ask what else you can do to
prove the domain name is yours with ease.

To the 3 replies, thank you so much for your help. I've initiated the
process with godaddy and looks like we'll get the problem solved.
