Hi readers,

Any wizards out there , that can decypher the error and code below.
i am using Office 2003, on 2 desktops one works fine, the other simply
crashes and states outlook had to close
asking if i wish to send error message; i have looked at event veiwer
for some clue .
Microsoft themselves states that at this time ,there is no solution.

To put more ammo in the fold , i have just installed office 2003 on a
new toshiba laptop, guess what outlook works
a dream. after removing office 2007 which was a trial version on laptop.

This problem is really bugging me, I've repaired , uninstalled
reinstalled which seem to work ok until i get these Outlook
updates , help would be greatly appreciated .

happy new year to all!

Does Outlook start in safe mode? (Start > Run > outlook.exe /safe > OK
button)

If the answer is yes, then close Outlook and rename outcmd.dat to outcmd.bak
and extend.dat to extend.bak. Another thing you might try is starting
Outlook with the /cleanviews command line switch.

Thank you NEO for an early response.

i have run outlook from the Start Run etc, but it still claps out, do you
wish to send error message.

also tried to run from the cmd prompt, cleanviews, it returns Cleanviews is
not recognised as an internal

or external command, operable program or batch file. My OS is XP Pro. those
two other commands where

will i find them Outcmd.dat/ extend.dat? Would it be in the registry?

But did you run it in Safe Mode as Neo said? Click Start>Run, then enter

outlook.exe /safe

Click OK. Make sure you include the space.

outcmd.dat is in %AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook . extend.dat is in
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. Both are
hidden folders, but if you open Windows Explorer and enter one of the paths
I specified here EXACTLY as I specified it, you will see the corresponding
file.

A big thank you for responding Brian.

I read you post tonight , definitely getting interesting. I did as neo
suggested running in Safe mode,

yes i got there but as soon i clicked on any email or button , i was
confronted with Outlook has to close down.

Have noted you are more specific than Neo, regarding cleanviews. I did
as you suggested and was able to read email

without any problem. The latter part of your post, outcmd.dat is in
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook . also

extend.dat is in %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook , i shall attempt to look for these

folders tomorrow , if i suceed and find my goal i shall commend you !
However i will post to let you know the result.

I can't understand 3 computers , 2 desktops dual boot and laptop , 1
desktop giving me hassle all on Office 2003

Hi Brian,
This morning i made the changes as you suggested. The
problem was still there.
When i entered Outlook the screen froze ,unable to use the mouse .shut down
& rebooted

went back to the folders concerned, i noted that there were two folders
now, extend.dat & extend .bak
i just deleted the extend.dat file. However i've just read my email
this morning.

many thanks to you , also Neo. I shall watch the situation next few
days.
