I have a friend who received 6 emails and at least one has photos which are
very large and seem to take ages to download. However after waiting a
considerable time the system stops at about 90% so she cannot see her emails
or the email with the photos.
She has tried to cancel the email with the photo but this doesn't work
What can she do to recover her emails?

Go to a free web mail server such as mail2web.com. It will just show the
headers without downloading the mail. You can then delete the one with the
large photo.

Sometime by logging into the webmail for the email provider
instead of using a mail program like Outlook Express or others
you can delete the email there.
