Receiving email

Hello,
I am running WinXP SP2. Recently, resulting from a popup I received
informing me that my internet security was about to expire, I dowloaded and
installed the latest version to ensure continuity. Prior to doing that, when
I received email a popup appeared telling me that incoming mail is being
scanned, which I still get. Up to that point everything is fine. What I don't
have now that I used to is (a) When I click the popup, it would disappear and
would be replaced with a popup showing how many emails were being downloaded
and a blue coloured tray and arrow indicating the mail being downloaded and
(b) After the incoming of mail is complete, it arrives as though it has been
read. It used to be in bold format indicating that it was unread.

Can someone please help.

Thank you

What Internet security? Pop ups are usually a ploy to get you to
download some sort or malware, virus, or Trojan. Do you actually
have an antivirus program or any sort of anti spyware program?

I would go here immediately and do a scan: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Hi gls58,
I have PC-cillin Internet Security 12 and receive email through Outlook
Express. I have done scans both virus and spyware but the problems that I
referred to earlier are still present. The initial popup I spoke of was from
Trend and coloured red, so I tend to think it was genuine. I can't see any
more info that I can give.

Check the setting in PC-cillin. Maybe some were overidden with the update.
I seen others here say that scanning incoming mail isn't needed that the
antivirus software will catch it anyway.
