receiving downloaded photos

I get the email with .jpg photos/I download one at a time
to pictures folder and/or desktop (both places tried). the
icon on the desktop looks OK but when clicked to open
shows just a tiny upper-left-corner box with a red x. Same
for the my pics folder: no photo just a photo icon which
opens up to the same tiny box w/x.

My hard drive was new recently; former windows 2k prof
worked great. Thought this was the same harddrive. Not so.

You know one thing you might look at is the size of these files you are saving. How about telling me how big one of these are that you are having the trouble with?
