receiving a fax

I don't understand how your computer receives a fax when
sender doesn't have a phone number to send to...if I am
connected via cable modem, not phone line, what send info
does sender need??
 
How did you expect to receive a fax without a phone line?
Fax uses phone lines, not the Internet. Your fax number is assigned by your
phone company to the line you plug into your fax modem.
