Rebuilding WINS database

My WINS server has been generating 4224 errors for several days. I believe
there is some sort of WINS database corruption. There is no WINS database
backup. I'd like to rebuild the WINS database. I saw an article on TechNet's
web site that says I should follow these steps to rebuild the WINS database:

1.. Stop WINS.
2.. Delete all current WINS database files.
These files are located at the path currently set in Database path on the
Advanced tab in WINS server Properties for the local WINS server.

3.. Restart WINS.
It then says When WINS is started with a blank database, it will replicate
back all records (including those for which it is the registered owner) that
are contained in data stored at other servers.

Does it matter that I have no other WINS servers on my network?

How will this process affect my users? I have DNS running on my network as
well.

Hi Dan,

After restarting Wins, go to your domain controllers and servers and run
"nbtstat -RR". This will force these machines to register in the (new) Wins
database. You can do this with NT, 2000 and XP clients too, but I would not
bother as they will dynamically register anyhow.
