Reboot Loop

I am having a strange RIS problem.....I have applied a riprep'd image to a
new PC. The image seems to apply OK, the PC reboots and gets to the 'enter
serial number' screen. Once I enter the serial number the PC reboots, and
stops again at the serial number screen. Every time I put in the serial
number the PC reboots - there is no way out of this loop. It doesn't matter
if the serial number is entered manually or through an answer file - the
result is always the same.

Now here is the interesting part.......the PC that keeps rebooting is an HP
DC7100. We already have a RIS image for DC7100s on our RIS server. I can
apply this image to a new DC7100, tweak the settings, riprep the image back
to the server, but it is this riprepped image that gets stuck on the serial
number screen.

Any ideas gratefully received!

Can you bring up the Windows XP Startup Menu on this machine (Safe
Mode etc...)?

If so does the menu include the item to "Disable automatic restart on
System Failure"? Try choosing that option if it is there.

That should produce a B.S.O.D. STOP error instead of a restart, and
hte contents of the STOP message will be a direct clue as to the
underlying cause of the problem.

Good luck

Hi Ron,

If I use an answer file when applying the image then after a couple of
reboots I can get into safe mode. I then get an error message telling me that
'setup cannot run in safe mode. reboot'. So I rebooted, then got en error
message saying 'the system is not fully installed. Please run setup again'. I
click OK, and then the PC goes into a continuous reboot loop, always coming
back to this message.
