really slow desktop on start up

Sometimes (about 3 in 20 times) my OS appears to freeze
on start up, but it hasn't actually frozen it is just
going really slowly.
e.g. when i move the mouse, the cursor moves about 2-3
seconds later. Other times it is really fast.
I know it is not the hardware as it is a brand new laptop
and i have run the full dell diag test on it.
Any one else had this.

Best Regards
Iain

Hi!
Have you checked it in Safe Mode?
Open Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event viewer > Here you look for
any application errors.

I had the same problem when I first started using the 10
notebooks at our agency. I found that the best solution
was to blank the drive, reformat and reinstall XP from
scratch. Then reload all the drivers, and skip all the
extra software crap that Dell pre-installs. They had so
much garbage running on the taskbar and in the background
that the machines would "freeze" up while they were doing
stuff for all that junk instead of what I wanted to do
with it. Got rid of all the trash, now they work better.
