Really confused

Hi all,
I am not sure this is the right news group, but I will give it a try.
My RDT works great when I am at work trying to connect to my home PC.
So here's my problem. I am using no-ip.com as a redirect for my ip
address. When someone try's to type in the correct no-ip direct, they
get an error that says

"The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site
might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to
adjust your browser settings.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is
spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then
click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The
settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN)
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can
set Microsoft Window"

I have the firewall open for this action (Zone Alarm Pro), I have a
DSL router with port 3389 and 80 set to port forward to my Linksys
router. The link sys router has these ports forwarded to the active PC
IP.

when I type into my browser local host, the web page comes up with no
problem.

I really could use some guidance in this area.

Thanks for the help.

Do you have the router configured so you can do remote administration? If so
disable that and try again.

While at work, or a friends house, use the normal, ie. non-web based, Remote
Desktop client and see if you can connect. Note that work may block TCP Port
3389 outbound. Check with your work network administrators about that. Also
note it may be against company policy to connect an untrusted network (your
home) to a trusted network (work).

Also note that if your testing from a PC on your home LAN and calling
another PC on your home LAN it is *NOT* a valid test to use the No-IP.com
address.

Have you run the http://www.canyouseeme.org test from the PC your trying to
connect to with Remote Desktop? This will verify if port forwarding is
working correctly on your router.

Lastly do this while at home...

1. Go to "Start -> Run" and type cmd in the command window. When the command
line window opens type the command "nslookup your-no-ip.com-address" and
note the reported IP address.
2. Go to the http://www.whatismyip.com site and compare the reported IP with
the IP reported in Step 1. They should be identical.

Al,
I want to thank you once again for your fine info, as always, you
come through.
I followed all the steps you recommended and I got the web site to
work. I particularly liked the http://www.canyouseeme.org , and
http://www.whatismyip.com. These two sights actually help me get my
modem and my router setup correctly.
It is really nice when both units talk to each other correctly.
Once again. Thanks a lot.

Cool...

Hopefully you will now stop going around in circles... Less chance of
getting dizzy that way...:)
