Really beginner question

Hi
I have a hyperlink to a document on my web site w hich is for downloading.
It is set up to open in a new page.
When it is clicked on the web the usual open/save dialogue occurs and save
seems fiine. However it I click upen the web page just closes. Can any one
advise me what settings are appropriate to open a word document successfully

You want the user to go to another page that has a save as upload file in a word .doc?
