Real pain

I have a Sony Viao that came pre-infected with Real Audio. Well it
worked, and it wasn't the huge bloated version, Real One, so I didn't
clean it out with the rest of the junkware that Sonly stuffed on to
the hard drive. Now however I get a pop-up telling me that I have to
upgrade to the all new bells and whistles Real ware. Does Real
Alternative still work for listening to .ra files. If so do I need
anything else, codecs for instance?

First you are going to have to deinstall Real Alternative.
Then you will need to clean *EVERY* entry in the registry that pertains
to Real Player.
Once that is done, then you can install Real Alternative and things
should be fine.
