reading pane settings

Using Outlook 2003 my reading pane used to show only the text in an email.
This was great for being able to use the reading pane without fear of adding
spam. Now it shows the images and I don't know how to turn it back off.

Can someone tell me how to set up the reading pane so that iamges won't be
loaded automatically?
