Reading and opening files

Have done a clean install from Win ME to XP Home. I am unable to open files
that where saved on ME with XP. The files are there as verified by explorer
but am unable to open. Most are MS Word documents. Word will try and open
the document but always displays the following:

"The documents name or patg is not valid. Try these suggestions:*Check the
file permissions for the file or drive.*Use the file open dialog box to
locate the document. (D:\..........)"

Can anyone shed some light on how I can view and open these documents?



Files that where saved on CD

Copy them to your hard drive from the CD and change the attrributes from
Read Only and then try to open.

Open Word first, then use Ctrl + O to open them from within Word.

Still problems. When I try and copy to my HD I get the following message: "
Cannot copy "file name". Cannot read from the source file or disk"

Also I get the message: "The documents name or path is not valid. Try these
suggestions:*Check the file permissions for the file or drive.*Use the file
open dialog box to locate the document. (D:\..........)", when I use Ctrl +
O

Are the files password protected???
