opening PostScript file

Jo-Anne

A friend and I both have WinXP computers. She recently created a file using
Adobe PostScript and emailed it to me. I can't open it. She says there's no
way to convert the file to, say, PDF or TIF. She also saved it as a Word
document, but it doesn't open in Word (I get an error message that Word
can't start the converter mswrd632.wpc).

Is there a workaround that I can use to get this file to open or that she
can use to save it in a different format? Perhaps a third party converter?

Thank you!

PDFCreator on SourceForge can convert .PS (PostScript) files to viewable
PDF files.

Another is GhostScript and family
http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/

I use both and I have Adobe Acrobat Professional which can convert .PS
(PostScript) files to viewable PDF files.

My mistake and my apology! The file is in Adobe PageMaker (ending in .p65
for version 6.5). Would PDF Creator convert this file? If not, is there
something else that would work?

Thank you again!

D'oh!

There is a big difference between an Adobe PageMaker and Adobe PostScript
file. PostScript is actually a scripting language that defines and output
format. Adobe PageMaker files are a data file format tied tightly to the
application. That is something that will be ahrd to find. If it exists,
it will probably have to be purchased.

If your friend wants you to "view" what was created or manipulated in
PageMaker she will have to "export" it to PDF...

Start PageMaker and load .P65 data file.
Choose; File --> Export --> Adobe PDF
Choose the required options --> Choose; "Export"

Another way is have her install PDFCreator on SourceForge
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

Then have her print to the "PDFCreator" print-device which will create a
PDF.

Thank you, Dave! I've forwarded the information to her in the hope that she
can work it out. If not, I guess she can email me a screen print of the
file. I'll report back when I find out.

Another option, might be to try to get the trial version of PageMaker from
Adobe. At least, it's still offered in the menu on the right here. Since the
page also mentions they're not selling PageMaker any more, when you go to
all that trouble, there might not be a download waiting for you.

What a trial version should do, is allow you to open stuff, but not save it
out. At least, that's how a Photoshop trial works. Maybe the PageMaker
trial would do the same for you - allow you to at least view the content.

Thank you, Paul! If my friend can't do the export to PDF, I'll give it a
try.

YW ;-)

I look forward to the update.

Unfortunately, the export through PageMaker didn't work. It acted like it
was going to but then said something about encountering a problem. I
suggested that she check the Adobe webpage, because I saw something there
about a couple fixes that applied to her version--and one of them might deal
with exporting to PDF. In the meantime, she has simply printed off a bunch
of copies, and I now have one. Fortunately, it's only one page.
