Reading a CD

Using my XP, I burned a disc with jpg pictures (CD-RW).
However, my friend has Windows 98 and can't access the
disc. What must he or I do to allow him to view the
pictures on his Windows 98 machine?

Depending upon the manner in which you burned the images to the CD, the
friend may need similar software, or a different CD unit, capable of
reading RW discs?? Explain more fully, and someone here may offer a clue...

Hi George,

There may not be anything you can do, his CD drive may not be capable of
reading writable disks. A lot also depends on how you created the disks. If
it was with WinXP's native burner, they can be viewed by most CD drives, but
if you used packet writing software, then viewing the files may require that
a similar program be installed on the other machine. But again, the drive
itself may not be able to read the newer media.

Thanks, Rick. I used Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 that was
installed on my Dell when I bought it new. Would it make
a difference if I used CD-R disc for the photos instead
of a CD-RW disc? If so, I can recreate using the CD-R
discs. I also have the Roxio application CD that came
with my Dell computer, since the label says it's for W98
as well as XP. I guess I could try to load that program
into his HP.

I would reburn it onto a cdr and since you use Roxio,

you can make sure you close it so it can be read on any
cd rom. Also if you close it "to read on any computer",
it closes it to the ISO 9660 standard, which allow you to
view it on your DVD player too.
