I got a set of discs from a friend who burned them for me . It's a series I
wanted . She sent them to me and I can't play them or view them in windows
explorer. Although my cd-dvd drive is about four yrs old it still plays games
and music cds. Was wondering if the discs she sent were ripped in a different
format that my drive can't read. I have Win DVD and windows media player, and
neither of these recongizes the disc. they don't auto-play.

Do you see any "files" on these disks, via Windows Explorer?

Can you try a different PC?

There are many formats that a "series" might be recorded in utilizing
either CDs or DVDs. Some of them require non-standard software for
playback. A great starting point to determine what is going on might be to
simply ask your friend what software/format she used to burn the disks and
whether she verified that they were burned correctly before sending them.

I do know that they are vcd's. I did get explorer to view what was on disc 1, but wasn't thinking enough to copy the files to my computer. Dah!Now it wont access them again. Also securom is on my computer via a game purchase. I have heard that securom mess with software that is designed to burn disc. So I am wondering if that is problem also? And I did write to ask her what type of software burned the discs, I am waiting to hear from her.
