Reading a CD on windows 98

I have just brought a lap top with windows xp. I formated a CD with
UDF and copied some files to it. When I open the files they are Read
only. And when I want to read the files on my old laptop with windows
98 the CD appears blank. How can I copy files to the CD on windows xp
and the read it with windows 98?

You need to install a UDF reader on Windows 98. UDF is a special format
that is not directly supported on Windows 98.

Forget the UDF stuff. Record your data onto a CD-R, and 98 will see it just
fine. All files on CD's are Read-Only. Rewritable CD's are notoriously
flaky, if not unreliable. CD-R media is dirt cheap. You can copy the files
from the CD to your 98 hard drive and then modify them.
