cd rom issues with windows.

I have a DVD+R/RW CD-RW combo drive that will no longer let me copy/write to
standard cd disks thru windows explorer. I recently installed software
(Magix Photo Story) to work on a project and burn dvd's. Since installing
the software I can still burn dvd's, run any cd software, music cd and can
copy document files onto a cd using only the new software. I can no longer
use windows explorer to copy/paste files to a cd or read a previously created
cd with documents generated by windows on this computer. When I try to do
this I get an error message that reads "D:\ is not accessible. Incorrect
Function"...

After reading thru some postings and support documents on Microsoft website
I did uninstall the drive thru my computer device manager and rebooted to
reinstall the hardware which did not work. In addition, I did get the latest
driver for the cd rom drive from dell which made no difference either.

Obviously, the new software has somehow disabled or changed the registry so
that the drive does not function as it should thru windows but only the new
software. Is there a solution to this problem or any suggestions. The
software provider is not much help with this because their program works, it
has just negatively impacted windows.

Once you install cd burning software you need to use it to burn cd's

it disables Windows' built-in function
CDBurnerXp is a pretty good program that burns CD's / DVD's and should
co-exist with other programs if you want to try. It's kind of a 2 pane
explorer, one your PC the other the CD.
