Read Error during Boot

When I boot, I have a choice of going into XP or using the MS Recovery
Console. I can boot into WinXP all the time. However, when I try to
use the Recovery Console, I get a read error and booting stops. I used
the original XP disk to use the recovery console and ran chkdsk with
the repair option. It fixed some errors. Then, I tried to reboot to
the recovery console (on the hard drive) and got the same read error.
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? Thank you..........
 
Remove and reinstall the Command Console, there may be some missing or
damaged files in the Cmdcons folder.

Thanks - sounds logical. Can you tell me exactly how to do this? The
MS Recovery Console was installed by someone else more knowledgable
than me. Thanks again.
