Recovery console now asking for password

Saturday morn

windows xp home was not booting

I used the recovery console to run chkdsk thorough. No Joy.

I ran a repair: error the SAM file was corrupted.

I ran the repair again. It gets to 39 minutes and hangs.

Now, the recovery console is requiring a password.

Is there a default password to try?

Try leaving it blank, just press <Enter>. It sounds like you have had a
major disk/file corruption issue. If the SAM database was corrupted you
most likely will not be able to log back on to the Windows installation
no matter what you try. You can replace the SAM database with a backup
one stored in the System Volume Information folder. Do you have a
Bart's PE disk or can you attach the disk to another Windows 2000/XP
computer?

Thank you for your response.

Blank did not work.

I replaced the SAM file. Was able to finish the repair.

I was able to do a number of maintenance bits. And copy all the data to
another computer..

I then applied service pack 2 and back to no booting.

So, today it is to be a fresh installation of it all.
