re-update problem

Dear All
I think IE7 was installed prior to SP3 and we have AVG Anti Virus
running, Spybot and Windows firewall.
I am reluctant to turn these off unless absolutely necessary as we are
not sure what is causing this security patch to install.

hi windows downloads an update and it fails to install. it says the IE
is the wrong version. I click the box to say don't try to download
again, but it keeps coming back.
This is my previous post, I had a problem with posting, hence the second
or more posts.

Every time we try to install the update it fails and comes back in the

installed, you've got a bad install of WinXP SP3 final, or you recently
(e.g., sometime after 08 Aug-08) reinstalled WinXP.

KB953838 was released on 08 Aug-08.

So, do you suggest un-installing the SP3 ?
