Update failure

Hi All
Not sure if my first post got through, so I am sending again

I have been assisting a friend to sort his laptop out and we have a
problem with a Windows update.
Every time we try to install the update it fails and comes back in the
Windows update icon, ready to install, but also told us we have the
wrong version of IE.

The Laptop is running Windows XP with SP3 and IE 7

The nuisance update is :-

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP (KB953838)

I have had a quick look on the MS website, and find this patch dates
back to June 2008.

There is a tick box to say ignore this update, but even though I have
ticked this, it still comes back ready to install.
Help please
Barry

Hi and thank you for replying
I think, but not sure, that IE 7 was installed prior to SP3. ( am not
near the laptop at the moment, it is still at my friends house.
Regards

Dear All
I think IE7 was installed prior to SP3 and we have AVG Anti Virus
running, Spybot and Windows firewall.
I am reluctant to turn these off unless absolutely necessary as we are
not sure what is causing this security patch to install.
Thank you
Barry
