Cannot install KB961371, KB971633 and KB973346

S

Simon

Hi,

Windows tells me that there are some updates are ready fro my computer.
I press to install, (express install).

"Some updates could not be installed

Security Update for Windows XP (KB961371)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB971633)
Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows XP (KB973346)"

I tried to run the install straight after reboot.
One by one, (using custom install), with no luck.

Can anybody suggest a way of running those updates?

Thanks

Simon

Further information required:

How to view the Update log in Windows

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type %windir%\windowsupdate.log
and then click OK.

Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate the error
code(s)
associated with the latest failed attempt to download/install.

If appropriate copy and paste the error codes into this thread so someone
may be able to assist you.

On the other hand, you may be able to find the error code and other
suggestions by searching the Newsgroup.

Also check Windows folder for file called KB******.log

(****** = number of update ie KB896688) and post the contents of the failed
update.

This may provide further clues as to why the update failed.

Last week, KB971633 and KB961371 would not install on my XP Home system,
they installed fine on 2 XP pro system; I am not sure if it's related.

I've downloaded the installation files and they both installed, I
downloaded from there :

I am in South Africa, from experience MS never returns calls or helps in
any meaningful way.

I know you will not believe me, (try and call them if you want), but the
most common 'solution' is to do a fresh install.

So, even if they could help they will ask me for the same info that I
have already supplied here.

I am not sure I understand, why are you telling me how to contact MS?
Are suggesting that you don't know what the problem is?
That it is a new problem?
That the log I send meant there is something else wrong?

Simon, logging on with Admin privileges is not the same thing as logging on
as the Administrator.
So, even if they could help they will ask me for the same info that I
have already supplied here.

So what? Repeat what you've posted here.
