i have windows xp with sp1 and some updates after that.
pppoe was enabled and i connect to an isdn connection --64 kbps- thru
realtek ethernet card. everytime i want a connection , i must double click
the shortcut to the dialer on the desktop and say dial. the connection goes
thru like in a dial up and i get connected.
is there a way to start it as a part of the startup and is there a way to
disconnect automatically without right clicking the icon in the notification
area and saying "disconnect"?
thanks in advance.

Get a ISDN Router that supports PPPoE and the Router, not the PC will make the PPPoE
connection for you. This will have added benefits such as being able to share the ISDN
connection with upto 253 computers or game boxes such as the XBox and Playstation/2.
Additionally the NAT capabilities of the Router will enhance the security of you PC.

BTW: Since you are using PPPoE on ISDN I wonder if you are really implementing IDSL.

sir!
thanks for the prompt reply.
it is done thru a service provider who has run cable thru the town and he
has the router. i donot have a network, just a standalone PC.

That's alright, all the jargon Doctors use sounds like Hindi to me :)

Namaste Davidji!(that is Hindi for you) :)
so how do i go about getting my original wish, ie starting the dialer as a
windows service, fulfilled? or is it not possible at all?

ps: i donot know about you guys but doctors always sound mystical because
otherwise where is the aura? and being jargony is part of it.
