IS:

These are the steps I use to setup PPPoE via Win XP (edited for your
situation):
Open CPanel: Network Connections
Give NIC any private static address (ie. 192.168.1.1)
Click Create a New Connection
Select: Connect to the Internet
Select: Set up my connection manually
Select: Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and
password
Enter any name for the connectoid:
i.e., SBC PPPoE
For user name field:
Enter your SBC email address
For password field:
Enter your password for the SBC email acct above

Create a new connectoid per these steps and see if you can connect.

To troubleshoot this problem, I suggest you first try the steps in CZ's
message to recreate the Network Connection to see if the problem can be
resolved.

If it persists, plesae let us know:
1. Did this connection work properly before? If so, what changes you have
done before it failed.
2. Have you installed Windows XP SP2?
3. Do you have any FireWall such as ZoneAlarm installed? If so, please try
to remove it and try again.

Please take your time to have a try. If you have any problems, please feel
free to let us know.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,

Sarah Lu

Thanks Sarah.

I have tried what you suggest i.e. recreate the network connection so many
times I've lost count.

This started happening after I hooked up a D-Link wireless router to my
Desktop. At that moment everything went haywire. I however have been able to
hook up my laptop to the same modem that my desktop was hooked up to so the
modem is fine.
On my desktop I only have Win XP Home that only has service pack 1a.
The desktop had Win 98 and I upgraded a few years back.

Your questions:

1. The connection worked perfectly until after I had hooked up the D-link
Wireless Router.
2. Only SP1a.
3. No firewalls. I had Sygate but uninstalled that before I hooked up the
D-link Wireless Router.

I sure hope I can get some help with this issue before too late because I
will have to send my laptop back to IBM fore an exchange today. The keyboard
is loose on one side. After that I have no way to get on line.

Hi,

Please try this:

Note This procedure includes steps to back up the registry keys before you
modify them.
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan

4. On the File menu, click Export.
5. In the File Name box, type exported rasman key, and then click Save.
6. In the RasMan key, locate and then click the ObjectName string value.

If this value is not set to LocalSystem, follow these steps:
a. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
b. In the Value data box, type LocalSystem, and then click OK.
7. Locate and then double-click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP\25

8. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
9. Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the selected registry key.
10. Repeat steps 7 to 9 to delete the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP\26

11. Locate and click the following registry key and backup the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Telephony\Cards

12. In the right pane of Registry Editor window, click NextID.
13. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
14. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
15. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
16. Restart the computer.
17. Start the New Connection Wizard, and then create a new dial-up modem
connection or PPPoE connection.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a nice day!
