Re: No PCtel Modem, PV92 Tray will be closed

Using windows XP, my 56K V.92 dialup modem stopped working. I have tried
to
roll back driver, un/re-install it, even removed it from PC but to no
avail.
I have tried to run XP recovery, everything but a clean XP re-install.
The computer recognises the modem HSP56 MR (SIS) and begins to reinstall
drivers from a generic disc but fails to complete. I get the above Subject
message even after having removed the modem from its slot. Sometimes Error
message Code10
Problems started shortly after, but not immediately, after I tried to
piggy-back off my neighbour's Belkin wireless network(w/ permission),
using a
dongle but the signal was rarely strong enough. I have uninstall all
Belkin
entries and don't think it is related.
Possibly related?: I have also tried to run sfc/scannow but get 'wrong CD'
error message

Try winsock repair.

Thanks, but it did not solve the problem. I think the files are looking for
the modem but wheter it is in or removed I get the Subject message above. I
deleted the PCTel folder from Windows, and loaded the drivers before plugging
in the modem but it still did not clear the error message and I still cannot
complete the modem installation.
Ideas?

FYI you would be fine using the standards windows model drivers (ie.
standard 56K V.90/V.92). Try forcing it to use those drivers and see if
it makes any difference
