I have removed the MS GSM 6.10 codec - how can I restore it to the list
of codecs displayed in Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device
Manager > Sound, Video & Game Controllers > Audio Codecs > Properties.

I have removed the MS GSM 6.10 codec

Wow, i got a warning that my system would crash and burn if i did
that. LOL. Still, i did it anyway. Rebooted and ran fine it seemed.
how can I restore it to the list
of codecs displayed in Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device
Manager > Sound, Video & Game Controllers > Audio Codecs > Properties.

That's easy, in there you just click the 'Add Audio Codec' or the
'Add...' button.
.... What? Not such button there.

Oh well, Sound is an optional component in WinNT, ¿right?, so just start
the 'Add or Remove Programs' applet, click the 'Add/Remove Windows
Components' in the listing on the left and locate the appropriate
component ...
.... What? Nothing suitable there either. What's going on?

Oh yeah, i forgot, everybody knows that Audio Codecs are hardware,
¿right?, so start the 'Add Hardware' applet instead. Click 'Next', and
wait and wait ... and finally mark 'Yes, i have already connected the
/hardware/ '. Again click 'Next' and in the list locate 'Audio Codecs'.
Hey, finally you are getting somewhere.
Again click 'Next' and nooooo ...
Do you also get 'This device is working properly.'?

I guess it can't be done then.

Ahh, what the ****, just make a .reg-file of the below, import it into
the registry and see if that won't set you straight again.
(Or add the info back manually if you want.)
N.B. What's between the square brackets should be on the same line!

====================== Add msGSM32.acm back in ======================
========================== Start below here =========================
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
"msACM.msGSM610"="msGSM32.acm"

=========================== End above here ==========================
========= Include a blank line at the end of the reg-file ===========

Whithout rebooting the GSM 6.10 codec showed up in the 'Audio
Compression Codecs'-list for me, but with the higest priority number (at
the bottom of the list), and i didn't take note of where it was
originally but i think something like priority 3, 4 or 5.

HTH ;-)
