I have an elderly computer which I upgraded to Windows XP in 2005. I'm
having a lot of issues with it, and would like to reformat and partition the
hard drives as NTFS, and do a clean installation.

The issue is that I only have an "upgrade" CD for Windows XP Pro, and it
does not have any of the updates I need (e.g. SP2). Is there a way for me
to create a disc to reinstall without upgrading?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

First - do you have the installation CD for the OS you upgraded from?
In other words - if you had Windows 98/ME/2000 installed before you
upgraded - did you keep the installation CD for the older OS?

- If so - you can do a clean install with the Upgrade CD and just insert the
older OS installation CD when asked for it. Note: It has to be the actual
installation media for the older OS.
- If not - you cannot legitimately change your Windows XP upgrade CD into a
full-retail (can be installed clean without prior OS installation media.)

Second - you should be able to integrate/slipstream SP2 into your CD.
Google. ;-) Nlite might be your best option.

You create a slipstreamed install cd containing latest sp
However as its an upgrade you would need to have, to hand, the qualifying
version o/s cd, in order for you to reinstall winxp.
No qualifying version = no winxp installation.

I was afraid of that. This computer was an OEM that came pre-installed & I
have no idea if I had software media or where that media may be.

You could try and source an older o/s cd, theres no need to install it, you
just need the cd available when the upgrade complains
