I have used my xp disc to overwrite xp as some files were
corrupted. Now the system runs slow when opening windows
and takes a long time to boot up from the xp screen Used
to take about 20 seconds now more a minute. Already
defragged without any improvement. It has been suggested
I need a complete frsh install instead of the overwrite
that I did..anyone agree with tbis of offer solution?

thanks
brian

there could be a million things causing slow speed...
these are from various sources....one might be the answer.
--------------------
If you have 128 MB or less its going run slow ...XP likes
more memory.

Slow response can simply mean the servers are overloaded
or there's a lot of
traffic. Given the recent virus activity which has
triggered a lot of
automated messages being sent to various servers, it is
possible that this
is the issue and not much you can do on your end.

Computer Speed Test for faster internet speed
www.internet-speed-guide.com/computer-speed-test.html

Update device/program drivers (If updated operating
system).

Clean out Temporary Internet Files. (regularly)
Limit size of Temporary Internet Files.

Dump all of the files in your TEMP folder. (regularly)

Run a defrag on your hard drive to get all the files back
in order. (Monthly)

Keep up with your Anti-Virus updates. (regularly)

Back-up/purge your DATA. You can replace programs
but your DATA means hours of work for you to input all
the old information.

Hi Brian,

If you have repaired XP using a SP1 slipstreamed version, the old hotfix
811493 would have installed.

You May Experience Performance Issues After You Install the 811493
(MS03-013) Package on Your Windows XP SP1-Based Computer:

Care to explain the logic of your opening sentence, Ramesh?

It seems the questioner has performed a repair installation.
