Slow Performance

, and IE 7.0. My computer is extremely slow in opening any program. For
example, when I open Outlook Express, the program partially loads (display
only shows part of the normal image) and takes about one minute to fully
load. I am running Windows XP Home Edition (with SP3) on my desktop with 1 GB
of RAM. I have taken all the steps I know of to correct the problem with no
success: 1.Eliminated unnecessary startup programs, 2.run disc defrag,
3.deleted temporary internet files and cookies, 4.run Norton Internet
Security 2010 and SpyBot, 5.Run disc cleanup.
I have run out of ideas. Can you offer some detailed suggestions, please?

perhaps, the virtual memory is a problem

insufficient vm can cause issues with
performance.

you might also want to test performance
in safe mode with networking.

the ms applications should function and
you can also access the internet.

What anti-virus application or security suite was installed before you
installed NIS 2010? Have you purchased NIS 2010?

When was the last time you compacted all OE folders manually?

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working
offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to
close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting
is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages) and provides no additional protection:

Just a guess, but you may be infected with spyware. Spybot Search and
Destroy is *not one of the better anti-spyware programs. I recommend
running both MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and SuperAntiSpyware, both
available as freeware.
