Re-creating the actual IE icon/shortcut on the desktop.

I know you can use TweakUI and also by right clicking the desktop,
properties, desktop tab, customize desktop. But, sometimes when I'm fixing
a computer, no matter if I try that or TweakUI it won't come back. I've
tried that registry hack but all it does is create an IE "E" icon on the
desktop. When I try to click on it nothing happens and when I try to right
click to see the properties I get an error message. Can anyhone help me get
the IE shortcut-actual icon back onto the desktop?

Hi Nocturnal,
When you Right Click the Icon select Properties and See the Path if it is
correct or not.
The path should be like this:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplorer.exe"
Click Ok and then Reboot and try double click your IE icon and see if it
will work.
If no joy try this:
Open your Windows Explorer and Click on Tools >> Folder Options >> File
Types and scroll down to and locate URL: Hypertext Transfer Protocol and
click on Edit.
Applicatoin used to perform action:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplorer.exe" -nohome
[ ] Use DDE select this
DDE Message:
"%1",,-1,0,,,
Application:
IExplorer
DDE Application:
Leave Blank
Topic:
WWW_Open URL
Click Ok to close and Confirm your Settings
Close the Edit Window and Reboot your computer and hope this will work.
Please write back with your findings
Regards

Hi Nocturnal,

Just right-click any working IE icon and select "Send to >> Desktop (create
shortcut)". You can then Right-click it and rename to remove the .exe part
or rename it to something else.

Hope this helps

Andy
