Completely computer illiterate so please excuse my description. Had to reboot my pc as i had the lovesan virus and a message "unmountable_boot_volume" appear on a blue screen. Windows XP is up and running(as if the PC was brand new) but I now have lost photos and windows media player files etc....

Is there any way that I can retrieve any of this info?

Did you format your Hard drive at anytime while making your computer run as
if brand new ? If so then there would be no way to recover these files.
