RDP Sound Device not recognized by Media Player v10

When attempting to use MPv10 in a remote connection to a Window Server 2003
SP1 from XP Professional SP2 to play a CD, I encounter the following message:

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with
your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your
computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be
functioning properly."

From within the remote connect session, the Sounds and Audio Devices
properties shows Microsoft RDP Audio Driver as the default driver for sound
playback. No devices are shown for sound recording or MIDI music playback. No
other devices are available. On the Volume tab, the Volume Control is checked
marked muted. Unchecking and apply the change causes the mute checkbox to be
re-checked.
No sounds are transfered, although the remote connection option specifies to
bring the remote computer sound to the XP workstation.

From the console session, the Sounds and Audio Devices properties shows a
SigmaTel Driver as the default driver for sound playback and sound recording.
The Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth is shown as the default driver for MIDI
music playback. No other devices are listed for all three categories. But
most importantly, the system produces sound, i.e. plays a music CD, so the
base configuration seems correct.

I know that when connecting to another XP SP2 workstation this works and the
listed driver, Microsoft RDP Audio Driver, is the same.

Suggestions.

Have you configured on the server to allow redirection of audio to
the clients? Done in TSC or a GPO.
