RAW Image Thumbnailer & Viewer wont Install - Error 1904

I cannot seem to succesfully install Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer And
Viewer for XP (latest download)

I get the following Error Message when installing;

Error 1904. Module C:\program files\Pro Imaging\Powertoys\Microsoft RAW
image thumbnailer snd Viewer for Windows XP\CRXRAWHandler.dll failed to
register.

HRESULT -2147220473

This is then followed by a similar error message (different file)

Error 1904. Module C:\program files\Pro Imaging\Powertoys\Microsoft RAW
image thumbnailer snd Viewer for Windows XP\NefRawhandler.dll failed to
register.

HRESULT -2147220473

I tried loading this sodtware about a month ago and had the same problem, I
gave up on it then and decided to try again later (when bugs fixed). Seems
the problem is still there.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, is there a fix?

Cheers

Sorry, update There is no "\" between Pro Imaging and Powertoys in the error
message and the file "CRXRawhandler.dll" is in the correct directory.

Bonjour

Hello

I had equally this same error message: -) (XPPro SP2)

To the assistance of Regmon
(http://www.sysinternals.com/utilities/regmon.html ), I was able to spot the
faulty
key in the register: HKCR\.tif that did not give me the writing rights;
after adds of myself in the authorized
users (and with the total check, no but :)), the installation was done
without problem: -)

Hopes this Help :)

Hi, Just reporting back.
Due to a stupid mistake, I had to rebuild my system from scratch. I decided
to install the RAW Image Viewer very early on, BEFORE I applied any updates
(my system was built from XP with SP2 included, but many updates to come).
The result was that the raw viewer went in like silk and has stayed working
after all the updates and subsequent installs of all my software.

It may sound like a drastic answer, depends on how much you want the RAW
viewer (I have a 5D camera). An extra upside is that I have lost all the
things I dont really want installed (!) and have also concentrated on a very
clean desktop. The result of that is that the machine is noticeably quicker.

Anyone else who tries the same drastic answer, post back here if it works or
not !
