Radeon AIW 8500 -> 9800 Install Question

Richard Munde

I have the latest MMC, etc. installed on my P4 3.0 system, The driver
is one version old, though newer than the one on the install CD that
came with my new Radeon 9800 AIW. My questions are

1) shouldn't I just be able to swap out the cards without
re-installing drivers?

and

2) Can I then update to the latest driver version without having to
re-install MMC ,etc? I've run into problems with this in the past and
had to re-install XP in order to get the MMC to behave.

Thanks for any thoughts on this matter.

you are able to just swap cards without redoing the MMC drivers....all
Radeon cards use the same drivers.
You are also able to just update the video drivers without reinstalling the
MMC drivers.

I just did this with a 7200 to 9700 AIW swap and had to uninstall then
reinstall everything ATI related to get a good working setup.

Me too, going from 8500DV to 9700Pro. Everything worked fine, but
performance, though better than the old card, wasn't anywhere near as good
as it should have been. Complete uninstall of MMC and drivers, followed by
install of latest version, and YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE the improvement.
