Hi,

i recently bought an Excalibur Radeon 9600 (256 mb), but no matter which
Motherboard (Asus A7N8X-E, Asus A7v880) I try it on - it crashes (VPU
overload) the same second I install Catalyst Drivers..

Anyone had simular experinces ? Perhaps even a solution ?

Thanks
jorgen

Ups. And I'm running winxp pro (SP2) - also tried on Win2000 SP4 - same
result. Same second I install ATI Catalyst it crashes....

Try the Omega drivers or older ATI ones.

Can't help on the technical side... but how about you try Omega's drivers?
www.omegadrivers.net

Although, if your card is really crashing like this, it's probably faulty.
There's no reason it wouldn't work with the ATI drivers.

I've heard several suggest older ATI ones - but how many versions should I
go back ? I tried 3-4 steps back, but still no luck.

Is it OK with the standard drivers?
Tom

there seem to be general driver problems with the 9600 series
Looks to me Ati is too lazy to write optimised drivers for weaker gpus -
they prefer to sell high end cards which run great with their lousy written
drivers.

I am talking here about AMD based system.. stability is here no issue either
but strong artifacts in 640x480 mode (only).
