Radeon 9600 with 256mb

Derek

I have an Athlon 3200+ with 1 gig ram & a Radeon 9600 with 256 mb

I've had my PC now for about 18 months and figure that the drivers should be
updated. I've had a couple of blue screen dumps with the culprit identified
as an ati driver (can't remember which one)

Now when I read up on installing the drivers am I right in assuming that I
need to uninstall the previous drivers ?

I'm new to all this but I have downloaded, in anticipation:
5.12 driver .exe file
cat-uninstaller
aticimun exe file
driver cleaner 3.3

The location where the drivers appear to want to be saved c:\ati\support
already seems to have 3 sets of drivers in there.

wxp-w2k-catalyst-7-991-040224m-013831c
wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-071-041026a-018719c

Is there anywhere I can find out in which order to do this and what or what
not to use ?

TIA
Derek

Does it say "infinite loop"? Just because a driver file is cited in the
BSOD, doesn't mean it's the driver's fault. Updating drivers is a necessary
step in troubleshooting, but don't expect it to cure your crashes.

It's strongly recommended but not strictly required - which also means
there's no need trying to unroot every ATi-related file in your system using
2-3 third-party tools.

ATiCimUn.exe alone (you can run it from anywhere) will uninstall all traces
of previous Catalyst drivers and any ATi tech demos installed on your
system.

Many recent Catalyst driver releases even include this utility. By default
it is located under C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\UninstallAll

C:\ATi\Support is a temporary directory, where the files are extracted prior
to installation. You can leave them all there or delete them all without any
effect on your system.
