R1C1 Reference Style

I know how to turn the R1C1 Reference Style off and on,
and have turned it off (I don't do macros). However, if I
close Excel and then go back into it, I have to turn off
the Reference Style again. How do I get it permantely off?

I think the reference style is set by the first book that is opened in
Excel. Change the style and save the book.
