R option not avaiable when reinstalling

I have a pc that wont boot and needs to be reinstalled via the cd, according
to the kb article on the error (KB326671) after the f8 accept terms page
there should be an option to R repair but there is not. If I continue the
only option is to L delete the windows directory which I am not to keen to
do. Any suggestion please.
 
Is the CD you're using retail or a recovery CD that came with the system?
Retail will allow a repair the recovery will not.
