Quick Launch icon postions "stuck," reset after boot

I added an icon to my Quick Launch toolbar today, and had no problem
arranging the icon order. However, after rebooting, the new icon is
always at the right side. In experimenting, I found that the existing
icons always are reset to the old order. Also, if I add a toolbar to
the Task Bar, such as the Desktop or a custom one, it also vanishes
with the reboot. It didn't used to do that, but as I don't change the
desktop very often, I have no idea when the change occurred.

I googled around and came up with a tip about the NOSAVESETTINGS in
the registry, but no help. WIN XP Home, SP2. Any help?

Did you try Lock the Taskbar? Right-click on the taskbar and select
that option to get a checkmark.

David,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I tried that, but no help.
What did fix the problem was a definition update on one of my spyware
removal programs. It found some malware, removed it, and after I
rebooted, the Task bar is now behaving normally. One wonders why
malware would do that, unless it was a side effect?
